FASU COMMITEE

The Organising Committee (OC) will be responsible for the transportation of all participants from Lagos International Airport on arrival and departure. The OC will take the participants to all competition venues. The Bus schedules will be made available to all Heads of Delegations on arrival.

– Transportation to all sports venues and tourism sites.

Roads and water ways will be use in transporting athletes and officils.

– flat bottom boat, 40 seater- 2

– FRSC, LASTMA, CIVIL DEFENSE will coordinate traffic.

The OC will provide as much as possible free Medical Services to all participants registered for the 11th FASU Games. The Health Clinics of LASU and UNILAG will be used to attend to any casualty in the course of the competition. Referrals would be made if necessary to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) or the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) if there is any need for any patient to see a Consultant(s).

Presently, there are 2 Life Saving ambulances available for use and more ambulances will be added to cater for any emergency at the hostels and sports venues.

HEALTH ADVISORY FOR FASU GAMES

The aim of this advisory is to ensure participants attending the games remain healthy before, during and after the games.

It is focus on the common health conditions

  1. Malaria
  2. STIs
  3. Mpox

MALARIA

Malaria prevention advice involves a combination of preventive measures referred to as ABCD of Malaria

Awareness of risk – malaria is a serious febrile illness due to infection of red blood cells with a parasite called Plasmodium which is transmitted by mosquitoes.  Infected individuals may present with fever, sweats or chills, malaise, joint and body pains.

Bite prevention – effective bite prevention should be the first line of defense against malaria infection. The use of repellants, insecticides, bed nets, use of clothing with long sleeve are measures suggested to prevent mosquito bites

Chemoprophylaxis – preventive antimalaria like atovaquone plus proguanil combination and mefloquine are recommended with practice guideline by the physician from the originating country.

Diagnosis – malaria infection could be a medical emergency in some individuals. It is advised that prompt presentation by participants with any of the symptoms stated above at the Medical Centers for early diagnosis and treatment.

 Sexually Transmitted Infections & HIV

The best protection from possible STI/HIV infection is to firstly address lifestyle issues and general advice on a responsible sexual life, then secondarily to make use of barrier methods when in contact with tissue fluids. The advisory serves both the athletes and the medical team on standby. Participants are advised to practice sexual hygiene to avoid transmission of STIs/HIV among other precautions stated thus;

  • Participants with known STI/HIV infection should seek medical counselling and ensure prevention of transmission to other participants
  • Medical personnel should make use of universal precautionary measures at all times to prevent transmission
  • Open wound in a participant should be managed immediately and well covered if he/she will need to return to sport. An event in which participant begins to bleed should be stopped immediately for medical attention.
  • Provision of barrier method commodities at designated points

MPox

Mpox formally called monkeypox is a disease caused by monkeypox virus. Most people infected recover but it can result in long term complication or death if not well managed. The signs and symptoms include rash containing pus on any part of the body, headache, fever, muscle pain and back aches.

Preventive measures are as follow;

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick with mpox
  • Avoid sharing cups, utensils, beddings or other objects
  • Isolate sick people with mpox from others until they have recovered
  • Health personnel should adhere to infection prevention protocols
  • Help provided by NCDC – Contact Centre via 08099555577

URTI/COVID – 19

In a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and any other respiratory virus that may be responsible for URTI, participants are enjoined to practice the following tips for prevention.

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol hand sanitizer is recommended in the absence of water or as additional measure.
  • Viruses can survive on surfaces, therefore be conscious of touching surfaces and avoid touching your face, nose, eyes and mouth thereafter.
  • Use the elbow greeting style rather than shaking hands especially with individuals with cough, running nose or fever.
  • Please practice cough hygiene – cover your mouth with handkerchief or your elbow when you cough
  • Wear a facemask when in crowded environment or when you have cough, running nose or fever
  • Please present at the Medical Desk if you have the following symptoms for immediate attention; cough, running, fatigue, fever, headache, etc.

MEDICAL INSURANCE

It is highly recommended for participants to take medical insurance with any of the International Medical Insurance companies operating in Nigeria before arrival. Other athletes from Nigeria can also relate with recognized HMO within the country for their medical insurance. It will go a long way in complementing the medical arrangements already in place.

Members of the medical team will be readily available 24/7 for further advice and medical interventions as may be required.

Additionally, the Secretary General of FASU has been added to the WhatsApp platform of the Organizing Committee. Efforts to publicize the event include branding of the FASU Secretariat at the campuses and strategic places in the city of Lagos are being made.

The engagement of stakeholders such as the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria and their counterparts across Africa for publicity are on-going.

The Social Media Platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Tik tok , etc will be fully utilised in order to reach out to all and sundry especially the youths

Placing of Banners, posters, radio, TV jingles across Lagos will be embarked upon.

The arts and culture sub-committee have lined several cultural activities to show case the Nigerian cultural heritage particularly that of Lagos state during the games. In addition, athletes and officials will be taken free to popular sites and tourist attractions in and around Lagos.

Participants will also have opportunities to be entertained by cultural groups, DJs, comedians and musical artistes in the evenings.

To ensure safety, various Security Agencies including the Nigerian Police, Civil Defence, Immigration, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Lagos State Traffic Motor Agency are mobilized to provide security at the campuses, sports venues, and accommodation locations, as well as to provide traffic escorts for athletes and officials.

  

Development of digital applications to facilitate online registration and accreditation of participants at the FASU Games. Coordinating FASU games via the deployment ICT infrastructure

Create awareness for safety and defence of vulnerable people. Beautification and Cleanliness of the environment in both UNILAG and LASU

We want to be able to make key announcements for volunteers (a notice board of some sort) that way we can upload key information for volunteers or intending volunteers

Hotels of not less than five star were identified for accommodating the FASU Executive Committee and Organizing Committee.
– we are in discussion with FASU Executive to find a five star hotel near UNILAG and LASU.

ATHLETES AND OFFICIALS (PARTICIPANTS)
– Femi Gbajabiamila hostel in UNILAG (480 bed space, self content)
– Moriri hostel in UNILAG (2000 bed spaces)
– Advent Integrated Service hostel in LASU (1064 bed space, 300 rooms, self content)
– All the participants (Athletes and Officials) for the 11th FASU Games will be accommodated in the various hostels at both LASU and UNILAG.
– Two for officials per room
– Four for Athletes per room.
